I paint from the heart and of the moment. So at this pivotal moment in our country's history, I chose my passion for our Flag to make a statement that I feel is paramount - a reminder of our God-given liberty.
Strong, powerful, and muscular, my Flag struggles to unfurl under the impending and darkening weight of governmental tyranny. I've translated its emotional colors in a style that represents my concern for its tortured white of freedom, its blood red of sacrifice and its rich blue of promise.
The overlying quotes are intentionally rendered in a distressed font that I feel portrays the struggle to maintain a clear focus on the importance of our liberty. Of these quotes, I have given on the seat of importance and light in my painting - because it embodies the soul of my country and the spirit with which I painted this canvas. - James Fox
