Steelman’s horses are magnificent in their natural state with their many variations of breeds – their long, unkempt manes, some with scars of past battles, all exuding a wild dignity - and his lens captures the untamed spirit of these mustangs in all their glory. The artist says, “It is a stirring experience to glimpse a herd of mustangs galloping wild and free.”
"In June of 2007, I photographed wild horses in the desert of southwest Wyoming. I found one black stallion that to me was the quintessential example of the wild horse - an untamed spirit. Each day I returned tothe area where he guarded his band of mares. I was able to capture a munber of portrait shots of this magnificent animal. This day was one of the most memorable of my 25 year career." Claude Steelman
