Ameille Hooper is a Utah native, where she grew up enjoying camping, fishing, hiking and all the beauty of the intermountain west. She studied art and photography and graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor degree in visual communications/design emphasis. Ameille made a career in graphic design and advertising, working for several agencies along the Wasatch Front. In 1999 she began working for Browning Firearms at their corporate offices in Mountain Green, Utah, and worked her way up to the position of Creative Director. In 2003 she married an Okie, and was hauled away kicking and screaming from the mountains she loved, and found herself in the flatlands of Oklahoma. She and her husband, Phil, work from their home office in the Tulsa area as representatives for a large printing company located in Wisconsin.
Ameille’s “WiredLife” sculptures are a product of too much bailing wire around the barn, and perhaps a little bit of whiskey. The first few were done as gifts, and were met with overwhelming enthusiasm. With the encouragement of friends, family, and art dealers, she returned to her artistic roots and has begun to sell her wire sculptures nationally.
Each wire sculpture is one of a kind, with its own distinctive personality and details. While the materials are simple – bailing wire, barbed wire, stone, sometimes found objects – the results are truly unique. Ameille says she enjoys getting to know each piece as it comes to life, and when they are finished she is always pleased when they find an appreciative home.
Suitable for a cabin, lodge, corporate office, or home, the finished pieces are certain to be a centerpiece and topic of conversation. Most of the animal works can stand alone, or be permanently mounted to a stone base. Each one comes with a numbered title plaque. The wire will naturally rust with time, and this only adds to the character of the piece.
Please check back often, as new pieces are always in the works. Ameille welcomes custom work and enjoys creating pieces for someone who has a specific size or subject in mind.
